In 2011, a year following the death of my father, I began working on a Mass. For those who don’t know what a Mass is, it’s the order of the Catholic Mass set to music (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, etc). This was a daunting task and in 2012 I decided to release the finished first part, the Kyrie as my opus 41. Well I was going through my music folder and cleaning out old, unfinished, compositions I have no intention of finishing and came across this piece from that mass. It was 90% finished so I decided why not wrap it up and get it out of the “To be Deleted” folder and into the “Finished Works” folder. So I am proud to bring you my Gloria, numbered as Op. 41a for Chorus, Organ and String Orchestra in G Major.
in Excelsis Deo!
Et in terra pax,
bonae voluntatis, voluntatis.
In 1976, when I was eleven years old, I expressed interest in composition to my piano teacher. But she wasn’t interested in nurturing that interest. Regardless, I had been taking piano lessons for four years and I felt I could use the skills I had to construct a piece of music. I did this and my piano teacher was impressed, yet still refused to teach me composition. I quit taking piano lessons and stopped playing. I would resume when I was 27 when I began learning composition from a friend. The rest is history.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of this simple piece of music written by eleven year old me, I have exported the piece using Garritan Personal Orchestra’s Steinway Grand Piano digital sample. You can hear it in the video below, along with some nostalgic photos of me from around the time when this work was composed.
I am pleased to announce my latest composition, a Duet for Clarinet and Piano in E-Flat Major, Op. 46. This piece is dedicated to my recently discovered biological family.
I am pleased to tell you that a selection of my music is now available on SoundCloud and Spotify. You can hear my most recent compositions and then some, on SoundCloud. On Spotify you can find a collection of my orchestral works and my Klavierstück No. 11 also known as “Haunted by Memories”. Here’s the links:
If you have been watching Indy Roamers’ awesome documentary series In Character, then you know there has been some pretty awesome music in the show. As composer for the series I have truly enjoyed working with director Ben Teague and bringing his work to life with music. Now that music is available for your listening pleasure on my web site! You can start listening on my In Character Soundtrack page!
An album of the full soundtrack will be available for free from my web site once the series has concluded.
I am pleased to present my newest composition, which took a lot longer than I wanted to finish. It’s my first piano sonata and is in my favorite key of C minor. As is customary with a piano sonata, it has three movements and is 21 minutes long all total. I hope you enjoy it!
I dedicate this piece to my dear friend and fellow composer, Jeffrey Brody.
Once again, I was called on to write some pretty hefty music for this newest episode of In Character. Enjoy!
Man I love this episode and I am psyched it’s finally done and online! Episode 2 of IN CHARACTER…
The first episode of IN CHARACTER has been very well received. But it was a bit lacking in the music department due to time issues. That said, episode 2 is chock full of music – lots of new material. Music production for episode 2 has just wrapped up as of today and the music is being married to the video in post-production. The next episode is just one or two (or less) days away! Stay tuned.
As I stated in an earlier post, I am composer for a new documentary series on the web called IN CHARACTER. Episode 1 was released earlier this month and here it is…
